BEHIND THE SEAMS

Take a look into the process behind various productions and projects: design presentations, renderings, mood boards, paperwork, construction, etc.

Here Lies Love (Broadway)

Costume Intern on the new Broadway musical, Here Lies Love: a biographical musical following the life of Imelda Marcos, from poverty to being the former First Lady of the Philippines.

Virgin, Mother, Whore

A devised show based on the theme of “La Malinche.” Through exploring her story, we created a piece that challenged gender identities and traditional feminist ideals/roles through the lens of the hispanic culture. The story explores the creation of woman from “Rib,” “Eve,” "Virgen de Guadalupe,” “1950’s Housewife,” and finally stripped down to “La Malinche.”

The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin

A musical that follows a young black dancer, Viveca, trying to make it in show business while facing issues of sexism, racism, police brutality, etc. from the 1960s-1990s. This journey is one of self-discovery and acceptance, and is still relevant today.

Fájate: La Colección

Fashion collection created for a Senior Repertoire, based on personal experiences growing up as a plus size Latina. Each piece explores the meaning of what a “good body” is amidst societal pressures and the Latin culture’s love language: food.

Broadway and Beyond Concert

Designed and draped a custom dress based on Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat for one of the conductors to wear at the Young Singers of the Palm Beaches’ Broadway and Beyond concert.

Burlesque

Project focused on increasing traditional construction skills and learning advanced techniques like corset-making, piecing together appliqués, boning, etc.

Tangled Feathers

Fashion collection inspired by Susan Sontag’s “Camp: Notes on Fashion” (2019 Met Costume Exhibition), bringing theatricality back into everyday wear, where people can mix and match pieces to make a fun and unique look. This collection was created at the FIT Pre-College Program, under the mentorship of Jacqueline Quinn.

Seven Deadly Sins

Collection of drag costume renderings, each based on one of the Seven Deadly Sins: Sloth, Lust, Pride, Envy, Anger, Gluttony, and Greed. Each also have an artist/artwork, overall color, and animal attributed to them.

Shapes Project

This project takes basic shapes and transforms them into something new, while connecting them to a greater overall theme. My theme was the Latin culture in Miami. I used a cube for a television (telenovelas), pyramid for curly hair, cone for an empanada, drum for a gold hoop, and a soccer ball for a bongo.

Final Rendering Project

Watercolor painting showcasing various techniques through different wall and floor treatments (texture), drapery, sunset (outside perspective), etc.

Superhero Rendering

Superhero costume rooted in ancestral storytelling and the power of women in the Latin culture. Family and keeping ancestral memories alive are a big part of the culture.

Historical Costume Collection
