Meet Kayti!
Kayti (she/ella) is a proud Latina Costume Designer and Maker from South Florida.
She takes inspiration from her West Palm Beach roots and uses color and print as a form of storytelling through her work. She believes that clothing holds and visually represents various histories, memories, and stories, which comes through on stage and allows us to get to know the character more intimately. Kayti uses the world around her, as well as her own culture and experiences, to influence her work.
Growing up as a plus size performer, she developed a deep, intimate connection to the fitting room and costuming. Part of her mission is to ensure that all performers feel comfortable throughout the fitting process and on stage.
Her work has been displayed at the Norton Museum of Art, Kravis Center, and various other theaters around New York City, Florida, and Michigan, including Boundless Theater Company, where she most recently won a LATA Award for Best Costumes for their production of Virgin, Mother, Whore.
Kayti is passionate about increasing diversity not only onstage, but backstage as well. Through thoughtful collaboration with other designers and performers, as well as a commitment to authentic representation, BIPOC voices and stories can not only be told, but uplifted and thrive in the best way.
When she’s not in the costume shop or designing, you can see her sporting a tropical-print pant, shopping at local art markets, or cooking Sunday dinner for her friends.
